“Tallinn (Reval). Forifications in the Middle Ages”

This book, the second in the trilogy by Professor Rein Zobel, continues the study of the history of Tallinn’s urban construction in more detail. The main focus is on the development of fortifications – the most significant structural element of this medieval town. Tallinn had about 7000 residents at the beginning of the 16th century. The town had planned and built an imposing fortification system shortly before Martin Luther’s Protestant Reformation. Tallinn’s fortifications had 73 defence towers and fortified gates. In addition there was a novel outer rampart and two stone bastions on the north-eastern side of the town.

Teine raamat prof. Rein Zobeli Tallinna linnaehituse ajalugu käsitlevast triloogiast on keskendunud keskaegse linna ühe võimsama struktuurielemendi – kindlustuste – kujunemise uurimisele.
