A book of poetry and prose to reframe your days—to renew your spirits and help you approach the world with an eye towards the positive, meaningful moments—with gratitude.
When Marala Scott hears people speak of their trials and tribulations, she, too, recalls days conquered by negativity. It would seep in quietly but methodically, cleverly distracting her until she seldom noticed anything else. With each passing moment, she would lose the peaceful, spiritual connection to the goodness, compassion, and beauty of each day. But she refused to give in. She began thinking about her life and how she reached that point—the point when negativity overtook the things that brought her joy and peace. She needed to know where she went wrong, and what the antidote was to this darkness. She closed her eyes and imagined a little brown envelope that read, “Do Not Depart From This Again” and when she opened it, she found a single word on the paper: Gratitude.
Marala carried that word with her until it became embedded in her core. When she was feeling alone and needed encouragement, she would write down snippets of advice and inspiration—reminders to herself to pay attention to the good that graced her day, to recognize the value of others, and to seek out new ways to express gratitude. It unveiled a life of happiness. With Gratitude is a book of inspirational poetry and prose that encourages readers to practice gratitude in our own lives; to take a break, a moment to reflect on the gifts and experiences (big or small) that we have to be grateful for.
