Virtual time travel during the 19th century was through books. Even though the albums of engravings and their accompanying texts that were published in the 1860s by Baltic-German artist Wilhelm Siegfried Stavenhagen are not part of the typical travel literature category, they are still comprised of interesting material that helped to introduce and better understand the area, both in the past and at the present time.
